Payback 2017
Date: April 30, 2017
Location: SAP Center, San Jose, California
Commentators: Michael Cole, Booker T., Corey Graves

And now, the most oddly booked, unnecessary and likely meaningless pay per view of the year! We’re four weeks removed from Wrestlemania and somehow it seems like a far more distant memory. This was going to be your run of the mill rematch pay per view but the Superstar Shakeup has rendered a lot of the top matches worthless. Randy Orton vs. Bray Wyatt is now non-title while Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho haven’t interacted in weeks. Fun for everyone you see. Let’s get to it.

Kickoff Show: Enzo Amore/Big Cass vs. Anderson and Gallows

Enzo and Cass talk about Chinese food and say that Anderson and Gallows’ fortune cookie will call them sawft. Amore pounds on Anderson to start and hits a running kick to the ribs. The offense doesn’t last long though as Gallows kicks him down and works on the arm until we go to a break.

Back with Anderson breaking up a hot tag attempt at the last minute, only to have the second attempt work a few seconds later. Cass starts cleaning house with the corner splashes, only to have Enzo make a blind tag. Gallows pulls him off the apron a second later for a big crash but Cass breaks up the Magic Killer. A small package finishes Gallows at 6:39.

Result: Enzo Amore/Big Cass b. Anderson and Gallows – Small package to Gallows (6:39)

We’re not done on the Kickoff Show as we have MizTV with special guest Finn Balor. Miz asks what the deal is with the long entrance and Finn says it’s the Balor Club. That doesn’t quite make sense as Miz wants to know what it takes to get into the Balor Club. Finn puts it up to the crowd who approve of Maryse but not so much of Miz.

We hear about Balor’s success worldwide but Miz thinks Finn might feel like a failure. Balor mentions all the injuries he suffered in a match that he still managed to win and become the Universal Champion. Miz mentions all the time away and asks what’s next for Balor. Finn makes it simple: he wants his title back.

Miz brings up Lesnar being the Beast but Balor is ready to fight a bigger man, just like he has for his entire career. A fight is about to break out but Miz hides behind Maryse. Miz isn’t worth the beating so Finn goes to leave, only to have Miz call him out. One Sling Blade later and Miz is quickly shut up as Finn destroys the set.

Video: Seth Rollins Gets Emotional Prior to Payback

[This post contains video, click to play]

Tonight’s WWE Payback show will take place at the SAP Center in San Jose, California, where the best match of the night could end up being Seth Rollins vs. Samoa Joe. The two were supposed to face each other back at WWE Fastlane, but the match was postponed due to Rollins’ knee injury.

The Bay Area has been kind to Rollins over the last few years, as he had what will probably go down as the biggest moment of his entire career there when he successfully cashed in his Money in the Bank contract back at WrestleMania 31.

As of this writing, Seth Rollins is the favorite in his match against Samoa Joe. If Rollins ends up winning, it’ll be Joe’s first defeat since he arrived on the main roster back in January.

Do you think Rollins vs. Joe will steal the show? Let us know in the comments below, or over on Facebook!

Video: Bayley Comes Home For WWE Payback

[This post contains video, click to play]

Tonight’s Payback show will take place in the hometown of the current Raw Women’s Champion — Bayley — as it’s being held at the SAP Center in San Jose, California.

Bayley was originally listed as the favorite in her Women’s Title defense against Alexa Bliss, however, when the “smart money” came in, the odds shifted, and Alexa is now the favorite. So, it looks like WWE is actually going to book Bayley to lose in her hometown.

Do you think having Bayley lose in her hometown is a bad idea? Who do you think should walk out of Payback as the Raw Women’s Champion? Let us know in the comments below, or over on Facebook!

WWE Announces a New Weekly Show

It looks like we’re going to be getting even more WWE programming every week, as the company just announced that they’re planning on doing a weekly Arabic show called WWE Wal3ooha, which will air on OSN, a satellite network which serves the Middle East and North Africa.

Stephanie McMahon said the following regarding WWE’s new weekly show:

“We are excited to partner with OSN to bring our passionate fans original and localized content featuring their favorite WWE Superstars. WWE Wal3ooha provides a new destination for our fans in the Middle East to enjoy WWE’s unique blend of action-packed, family-fun entertainment.”

This is the second market specific show that WWE is planning on launching this year, as they’re also planning on doing a weekly UK show at some point.

What do you think of WWE’s decision to go all-in with some of these markets? Do you think the new Arabic show has anything to do with Jinder Mahal’s sudden push? Let us know in the comments below, or over on Facebook!

John Cena Talks About His WrestleMania 33 Proposal

Earlier this month at WrestleMania 33, John Cena proposed to his longtime girlfriend Nikki Bella after the couple defeated The Miz and Maryse, but we still don’t know when the actual wedding will take place. Earlier this week during the premiere of The Wall, which Cena has a part in, the former 16-time World Heavyweight Champion talked about his decision to propose to Nikki on WWE’s grandest stage, and the couple’s wedding plans.

“I just wanna make sure that it’s a it’s a good day. We’ve made our lives very public and I think the world knows that it’s been a lot to just get to that proposal moment. I want [Nikki] to be as happy as she was at that moment.”

It doesn’t look like we’ll see Cena or Nikki in a WWE ring until this summer, if not later. In fact, there’s a chance that Nikki’s in-ring career could be over due to injury, so we might never see her wrestle again.

Vince McMahon Sent a Message to the Young Bucks Before WrestleMania

The Young Bucks, Matt and Nick Jackson, recently appeared on Edge and Christian’s podcast to discuss a variety of topics, including receiving a message from the WWE chairman prior to their match with the Hardyz over WrestleMania weekend.

Matt Jackson explained Vince McMahon’s message to the team, which was delivered by Matt Hardy prior to their match at Supercard Of Honor XI.

“We got there a little early because we were excited and we were in the ring kind of fooling around with the ladders and making all of these contraptions and stuff and [Matt Hardy] shows up and he gets these big eyes and he’s like – I could tell that he was already kind of worried. [Matt Hardy] comes up to the ring and he’s like, ‘Vince McMahon called me this morning and said, ‘hey I know these Young Buck kids are good, but could you please tell them to take care of you guys?’ So he’s pretty much passing down word to us.”

So Vince is clearly aware that the Young Bucks are one of the best tag teams in the entire world. With that said, do you think they’ll end up in WWE at some point in the near future? Or do you think it’d be better for them to stay on the indy scene? Let us know in the comments below, or over on Facebook!

Spoiler For Tonight’s House of Horrors Match

As previously noted, the majority of tonight’s House of Horrors match between Randy Orton and Bray Wyatt has been taped, as most of the match will take place in an actual house as opposed to in the arena. However, while the match will begin outside the ring, it will end up in the ring at some point.

According to PWI, over ten minutes of the House of Horrors match has already been shot, which includes Randy Orton pulling up to the house in a limo. There are apparently several rooms in the house, all of which include dolls hanging from the ceiling.

The pre-taped footage will show Orton and Wyatt battle throughout the house, and their battle will end after Wyatt attempts to trap Orton in the kitchen, as the current WWE Champion will leave the house shortly thereafter.

As of this writing, Bray Wyatt is favored to defeat Randy Orton tonight, which is why the WWE Championship isn’t on the line.

Triple H Praises Jinder Mahal, Drew McIntyre

WWE COO Paul Levesque, better known as Triple H, recently spoke with For The Win about ex-3MB teammates Jinder Mahal, who is set to challenge Randy Orton for the WWE Championship next month, and Drew McIntyre, who was recently brought back to the company via NXT.

While speaking about their first run with the company, Triple H said both ex-3MB members were to young and immature to make the most of their opportunities. But, he believes that both men are now ready to be top stars in WWE.

“Jinder is a guy who has always worked extremely hard. He trains hard; he’s very intense about what he wants with his career; he’s very thoughtful. That’s the same with Drew. That opportunity came for them when you’re too young and not ready for it and a little immature to it.

“When they left, I had a conversation where I told them, ‘We’re not going to be able to do more with you here. Go other places, learn more in your career, mature and think about the business in a different way.’ Sometimes you get reliant on other people telling you what to do instead of going out there and figuring it for yourself, which is what you have to do.

“To Jinder’s credit and to Drew’s credit, they left, they went and figured it for themselves, they improved. They’re both men now as opposed to kids trying to make it in the business. They see their careers differently and what they want and are still extremely hard workers and great people. Now hopefully they are in a better position to succeed.”

Jack Swagger on Why He Left WWE And Where He’ll Go Next

Former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Jack Swagger, who recently requested and was granted his release from the company, spoke with Main Event Radio to talk about why he decided to leave the company, and where he could go next.

Leaving WWE:

“I had been with the company for 10 years. I’m very fortunate for the career that I had. What it really was is a business decision. I valued myself at a certain price, they valued it at another. I’ve gotta move forward. It was just time for a change; time for Jack Hager/Jack Swagger to go out and see other opportunities. I’m kind of green all over again on this side. It’s so exciting. It’s the best time to be a wrestler. Transcending countries, languages. It’s really cool to be a part of that movement. I’m grateful for the brand that we created together.

“I’m home more, I have 2 young kids. If I could be Mr. Mom, I would. Packing lunches, I could take my son to school. I’m a big family man. Now we are putting the family first. 200 days a year out there in a car every night it’s really gotta be in your heart. Now that I’m on the outside of it I could see where I was making mistakes and how I could’ve handled things differently. I’m excited to put my nose to the concrete and grind. Independent wrestling is so big and with social media now and the internet we could brand ourselves. I really don’t like the term indies, because it’s not indies anymore. I’ll go anywhere. Japan would work perfectly the way I wrestle. It’s a new movement of territories coming up again. People are working together to put on good shows and put on good wrestling.”

Where he’ll go next:

“I have no idea at this moment. It’s very exciting what they’re doing over there. Also very exciting what ROH and Lucha Underground are doing. After the non-compete is up, I’d definitely like to figure that out. It’s scary but you could literally go work everywhere. I don’t want to limit myself. Find a way to use pro wrestling to make what you want to do work. I’m a superhuman freak athlete I just turned 35 and I’ve got a lot of years ahead of me. Wrestling is so powerful and it’s so cool.”
