Rumor: Major Change of Plans for Lesnar’s Next Challenger?

So this whole thing was a big waste of time? The main event for Sunday’s “Extreme Rules 2017” pay per view is a Fatal Five Way match for a future shot at Brock Lesnar’s Universal Title. Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Bray Wyatt, Finn Balor and Samoa Joe will be squaring off for the title shot, but a new report suggests that the new #1 contender could be someone completely different.

According to “Wrestling Observer Radio”, no matter who earns the title shot this coming Sunday, Lesnar will be defending the title against Braun Strowman at the upcoming “Great Balls of Fire” pay per view in July. Strowman has been out since mid-May with an arm injury, which WWE claimed could keep him out for six months.

Opinion: Tell me they’re not going to do this. The show’s ratings have been horrible for months now and telling the fans that that everything they’ve sat through for the last few weeks have been thrown away isn’t going to help your remaining audience. Just let Lesnar beat up one of the five participants and then let him face Strowman at any other pay per view. If you’re going to build a match for weeks, don’t pull the rug out from underneath everyone just because you can.

“Monday Night Raw” Ratings and Audience Sink Even Further

And the hits keep right on coming. There’s no secret to the fact that “Monday Night Raw” has had one of its worst years ever in regards to both TV ratings and audiences. The numbers have gone down more and more every single week and things are actually getting even worse thanks to Memorial Day.

According to 411mania.com, last night’s episode of “Monday Night Raw” drew a .86 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.613 million viewers. These are down 5% and roughly even respectively to last week’s numbers. The rating is the lowest since September 26 and the viewership is the lowest since Halloween.

Opinion: In a very odd way, this might be seen as an improvement. The fact that the numbers only went down a bit on a holiday are better than the numbers going through the floor, which might not be the best take away in the world but it’s better than nothing. Next week’s show should get a nice boost with the post pay per view audience.

Ryback on Punk’s UK Offer and More

Feed him even more podcast topics! Since leaving WWE, Ryback has been one of the more prolific talkers in wrestling, offering his take on almost everything that happens in WWE or wrestling in general. On his “Conversations with the Big Guy” podcast, Ryback talks about most major stories in wrestling and that’s the case again today.

Ryback is back to talk about a variety of topics on his latest podcast. These include both independent wrestling issues, including, current goings on in WWE and a story that seemed to almost scare him. Here are some highlights with transcription courtesy of Wrestlinginc.com:

On CM Punk’s $1 Million to Wrestle in the UK

“Yeah, he didn’t put in there that the contract is for seven years and 34 tournaments! Yeah, I don’t know. I think he’s just happy. He’s probably jerking off that he is getting mentioned on the podcast right now. Sign me up! I want to be his first opponent over there. We can right all the wrongs. My only demand is one million and one dollars.”

And on a Potential Return to WWE

“True story. I got two phone calls today from Boca Raton, Florida. Boca Raton? I was at home doing something on one of them and I was at the gym on the other. And I forget what it was for. What was it for? I don’t know what it’s for. I think it was just some promotional thing, but in my head, I picture Vince in his Boca Raton home because he used to train, he has a house there or something, and he’s calling me and I’m like, ‘this should be an interesting voicemail’ and it’s not and I pick it up on the second one or the third one or whatever and they called a lot today, and it was some promotional thing for some vacation thing and I was just like, ‘Jesus Christ!’ No, not any time, not even. I wish them nothing but the best and all performers there. It’s just not happening right now.”

Source: “Conversations with the Big Guy” Podcast

Opinion: I’m not big on a lot of what Ryback says as I can’t stand his attitude at times, but it’s almost always interesting to hear a take from someone who was actually working for the company fairly recently. Ryback never shies away from saying what he thinks and there’s usually something interesting in there somewhere.

WrestleCircus Looking to Expand, List Expected Upgrades, IndieGoGo Backlash

Independent wrestling is where many of the superstars we watch on our televisions today originally came from. From people like AJ Styles right through to Sasha Banks. Everyone started somewhere. WrestleCircus is one of many indie companies, and it is time for a change.

WrestleCircus, an indie promotion in Austin, Texas is looking to expand their reach, which includes a new venue, new sponsors and new ways to bloom within the industry.

Yesterday the company’s official Twitter account tweeted out that they would sadly be leaving their previous venue, the ‘800 Congress’ behind, having found a new potential location that better suits the product they aim to provide.

It’s bittersweet to say, but we’ve officially outgrown 800Congress.

We found a new location but need help securing funding for the project. pic.twitter.com/Um1qwAXRSO

— WrestleCircus ? (@WrestleCircus) May 30, 2017

They explain that 800 Congress is now becoming too small to fit the amount of fans coming to the shows, which limits what the company can do in a number of ways. The place they have found should fix this, with additional upgrades that will help not only the company itself, but other independent wrestling companies in Texas.

Their list of expected upgrades includes:

-More wrestling shows.
-Lower ticket prices.
-A new training facility to attract top prospective students.
-Better chairs.
-Better food and beverage selection.
-Professional ring lighting.
-A weekly $10 wrestling show featuring top local talents.
-DTG Printing Machines for wrestlers.
-An on-site wrestling gear designer/maker.
-Free on-site parking + tailgating.
-Venue for local MMA & boxing promotions.
-No time restrictions -they can keep the building open later for after-parties.

In order to achieve this, the company created an IndieGoGo page to help fund for all of these upgrades, explaining to fans via Twitter that other forms of crowdfunding would be too expensive.

This IndieGoGo would serve to help pay for many of the aforementioned upgrades, as well as the lease of the property and new chairs to provide a better experience for consumers. They would also intend to look for professional sponsors for their product.

Sorry, I should have said “corporate brands”.@Twitch@lennylarrys_s@Onnit@blueapron@SuplexWrestling@MonsterEnergy@Shopify

— WrestleCircus ? (@WrestleCircus) May 31, 2017

However, the IndieGoGo would not last long, as it was perceived to some to be a ‘money-grab’ and the company would soon refund everyone, owners Al & Lexi Lenhart explaining that they would evaluate new options to achieve their goals.

All #IndieGoGo orders have been refunded. Thank you to those who supported.

We are evaluating new options to achieve our goals. https://t.co/2iv2wi3aoz

— WrestleCircus ? (@WrestleCircus) May 31, 2017

Users on Twitter would defend the promotion, offering support in any way they can, such as providing food and beverage for the promotion. They would later send a further tweet out explaining to fans that they shouldn’t worry.

There is ZERO reason to be upset about the #IndieGoGo campaign being closed/refunded.

We will figure out a way. Thank you all!

— WrestleCircus ? (@WrestleCircus) May 31, 2017

Most outside of Austin just think we are some money mark promotion destined for failure.

Starting a crowdfund made them feel validated. https://t.co/NhVN3kqlto

— WrestleCircus ? (@WrestleCircus) May 31, 2017

Regardless, the WrestleCircus promotion are keeping their heads high and looking at the positives. Their #LuchaCarnival video-on-demand is available today and they are trying their best not to let this speed bump slow them down.

With all the emotional support our true fans have given, there is nothing that will stop us from achieving our goals.#StayPositive pic.twitter.com/07WRUyOdzm

— WrestleCircus ? (@WrestleCircus) May 31, 2017

The promotion currently have a campaign via Twitter. If they can get 5 thousand retweets on the following tweet, they will be releasing a show free, featuring multiple big-name independent wrestlers including the likes of reDRagon, RPG Vice, Guerrilas of Destiny, Brian Cage and more.

5,000 RT’s!!!

If you would like to support the promotion in any way, you can follow their Twitter, stay up to date with their content and for any financial aid you may be able to give them, they are available at [email protected]

Editor’s Note:

It brings a smile to my face knowing that a promotion has this much faith and perseverance to stand out from competitors and still support them. I’ve heard about WrestleCircus for ages and I can see just how incredible the promotion is. For those that ruined the IndieGoGo, I can only feel shame. If anyone is able to help WrestleCircus out, do contact them. #SupportIndieWrestling

John Cena Confirms WWE Return Date

The champ is updating! John Cena is on one of his very frequent absences from WWE and that’s not the biggest surprise. Cena is currently off filming another season of his Fox reality show “American Grit” as well as a movie, which has kept him off WWE TV since early April. While his return date has been teased for a few weeks now, Cena himself has confirmed the day he’ll be back.

With “Smackdown Live” in Atlanta, the same area that Cena is filming his new movie, Cena tweeted a message saying how hard it was to stay away from the show for so long. In the same tweet, he also said that July 4 was getting closer. This is the date that has been rumored for Cena’s return.

Bittersweet day today as I begin another night in Atlanta. Such a funny movie but #SDLive @WWE is so close! 7/4 can’t get here fast enough!

— John Cena (@JohnCena) May 30, 2017

Opinion: If there’s a more appropriate date for Cena to return, I’m not sure what it is. He’s the All American boy and there happens to be your standard evil foreigner carrying the Smackdown World Title. While I don’t think Cena wins the title on the night he returns, I do think he gets a shot at it and sets up his match at “Summerslam 2017”.

The Rock Has Twitter Exchange With ‘NXT’ Superstar

The Rock has become a huge name in the film industry, having starred in several of the biggest movies of all time. Even now in 2017, he hasn’t forgot where he came from.

WrestlingInc reports that The Rock had a Twitter exchange with WWE ‘NXT’ superstar Buddy Murphy, who tweeted that he had just watched The Rock’s new movie, Baywatch.

Buddy Murphy signed with WWE back in 2013 and is a one-time WWE NXT Tag Team Champion alongside Wesley Blake and current WWE Raw Women’s Champion, Alexa Bliss.

Checked out #BayWatch last night! Very good movie! @TheRock & @ZacEfron had me in stitches!

— WWE Murphy™ (@WWE_Murphy) May 25, 2017

Thx my man! Glad you loved the movie. Keep grinding hard and I’ll see you at the top one day. @WWENXT @WWE #Baywatch? https://t.co/cnrzEf1PtP

— Dwayne Johnson (@TheRock) May 25, 2017

The Rock appears to be saying he has faith in Murphy becoming a top superstar in the company. As any superstar will tell you, getting approval from a superstar like The Rock means a lot, so this is big for Murphy.

[This post contains video, click to play]

Editor’s Note:

As a fellow Australian, I couldn’t be more happy for Murphy. He has achieved something most Australian wrestling fans don’t get. Getting acknowledged by The Rock is a huge deal, so hopefully management sees this as a big name investing in Murphy, to where they give him a push. He is extremely talented. Underrated.

What are your thoughts on Buddy Murphy? Do you see anything big coming from him? Let us know in the comments below or over on our Facebook page or Twitter account. Additionally, you can follow me on Twitter at @SOSNH1995 if you’d like. Thank you for your time.

Lana Tweets a Picture of Her and Rusev Training for ‘Smackdown Live’ Debut

It seems that Lana and Rusev are two of the WWE Universe’s favorite competitors to watch in the ring. Despite this, they haven’t competed on WWE programming in months.

Lana today tweeted out a picture of herself and her husband Rusev training for their ‘Smackdown Live’ debuts.

The tweet was captioned with “Couples that run together #CRUSH life together !!” which could signify what they may potentially do together whilst on ‘Smackdown Live.’

Couples that run together #CRUSH life together !! ??@RusevBUL Training for #SDLive debut ?? pic.twitter.com/fQf677ZZFH

— CJ (Lana) Perry (@LanaWWE) May 30, 2017

Rusev was supposed to make his debut several weeks ago for ‘Smackdown Live’ by addressing his desire for a WWE Championship match at ‘Money In The Bank.’ However, he never showed up. This is reportedly due to WWE changing plans last minute with the character, leading to Rusev watching sports instead.

Lana has had vignettes air every week since both her and Rusev were drafted to ‘Smackdown Live’ during the ‘Superstar Shake-Up‘ on April 10-11. She has been testing out a dancing gimmick at NXT live events, which is reportedly the same gimmick as Emmalina, but repackaged for Lana. WWE also hinted recently at her potential ring attire.

If any more news does come out on the status of Rusev and Lana, Wrestling Rumors will bring it to you here as news breaks.

[This post contains video, click to play]

Editor’s Note:

I honestly can’t wait for both Rusev and Lana to debut. I love their characters and I know they’ll both bring so much to the table. It’ll also be nice to see Rusev potentially win the WWE Championship, because the man is beyond deserving. Lana could add some much needed spice to the women’s division.

What do you think of Lana and Rusev? Should they come to ‘Smackdown Live’ as a duo or separate? Which matches on the blue brand should they have? Let us know in the comments below or on our Facebook page or Twitter account. You can additionally follow me over on Twitter at @SOSNH1995. Thank you for reading.

Update on Lince Dorado’s Injury

That’s better. Injuries can come at a moment’s notice in wrestling and they’re never a good thing. It can take anything as simple as a bad landing to put someone on the shelf for months. On Monday, it seemed that a member of the WWE roster might have been banged up and now we have an update.

Earlier this week, Lince Dorado seemed to injure his knee while taping an episode of “Main Event”. While we don’t have a definitive answer on how good or bad the knee is, Dorado sent out a photo on Instagram showing his knee with the caption “recover”. Dorado was in Atlanta for the “205 Live” taping last night but wasn’t used.

A post shared by Lince Dorado (@lince_dorado) on

Opinion: While it doesn’t say much, it’s certainly better than being told he’ll be out for a long time. Dorado might not be the biggest star on the roster but you never want to hear about someone being injured for any length of time. Hopefully he’s back on his feet (literally) soon and back in the ring.

Who do you like on “205 Live”? Who do you think challenges for the title next? Let us know in the comments below.

Neville on Triple H, NXT and the British Wrestling Scene

Since joining the Cruiserweight division on ‘Raw,’ Neville has astounded fans all over the world with his impressive talent, working as a heel and quickly capturing the Cruiserweight Championship. Prior to his venture into this division, Neville had only worked as a face on the main roster.

Neville recently spoke with Sports Illustrated about his time in ‘NXT,’ the British wrestling scene and if he cares what Triple H thinks of him.

Neville is first asked about the Performance Center, where all new WWE recruits go to train in various aspects of their character, such as moves and durability, staying in shape and promos. WWE have in the past held multiple openings of the center for media and fans alike to see.

SI.com: How much of your success do you attribute to the Performance Center?

Neville: I credit a lot of my success to the Performance Center, but I’m just naturally gifted, so that’s that.

Moving forward, Sports Illustrated would ask Neville about his impact on the ‘205 Live’ roster as part of the Cruiserweight division. Neville captured the Championship by defeating Rich Swann back at the ‘Royal Rumble’ pay-per-view in January of this year.

Do you feel an extra motivation to succeed and engage audiences with your style since you are a cruiserweight in the land of heavyweights in WWE?

Neville: Pound for pound, I’m unmatched. This has traditionally been the world of the giants. For those who are smaller, we’ve always been fighting an uphill battle. The cruiserweight division consists of guys under 205 pounds, but I don’t need to tell you what I do. You can watch me and then you’ll understand what I do and what I’m all about. I don’t want to labor the point. I’m not one of these guys who is going to build myself up to you for an over and put myself over. I do my talking in the ring. Austin Aries, however, is someone who is a better talker than he is a fighter. I am fundamentally a fighter before anything else.

This is a big man’s business, so for any guy who is considered undersized, you are constantly fighting an uphill battle. This has very much been a catalyst in my change in attitude. For too long, I have been overlooked. For too long, I have been disrespected. For too long, I had been too good. That is exactly why I have turned up in 205 Live, and that is exactly why I have behaved in the manner in which I have behaved recently. I am a product of this environment. I am inevitability, and now I am showing everyone what I am all about. I tried to play the etiquette game, the respect game, for too long, and it didn’t work out for me. Now I’m rightfully taking what is long overdue.

‘The King of the Cruiserweights’ is than asked about his relationship with WWE Executive Vice President of Talent, Live Events and Creative, Triple H. Triple H was last seen on WWE television at WrestleMania 33, where he was defeated in an ‘Unsanctioned’ match against Seth Rollins, which would also see his real-life wife Stephanie McMahon be put through a table.

SI.com: Paul “Triple H” Levesque is a guiding force with the Performance Center, as well as the creation of the Cruiserweight Classic and 205 Live show on the WWE Network. What have you learned from Triple H’s guidance?

Neville: Hunter is a role model to everybody. Obviously, I’ve got a lot of respect for Hunter. Right now, I’m not concerned about him or his admiration or respect. All I’m concerned about, right now, is myself. I haven’t always been that guy. For the longest time, I was trying to please everybody, the WWE Universe included. Now, I don’t care. If Triple H likes me or dislikes me, that’s not important to me. What’s important to me is me. It’s taken me a long time to say that.

After the shocking answer of the previous question, Neville is asked what is to come of him after this feud with current number one contender, Austin Aries.

SI.com: What are your goals for storylines and feuds post your work with Austin Aries?

Neville: Domination, baby. Domination. I am going to continue to house keep my kingdom. I’m never satisfied. If you think I’m satisfied now, that would be a big mistake. There is a lot for me to do, and this 205 Live and the Cruiserweight championship are just the first steps. You can mark my words–this is just step one.

Finally, as a British wrestler himself, Neville is asked by Sports Illustrated what he thinks of the professional wrestling scene there.

SI.com: Talents outside the WWE, specifically Will Ospreay and Marty Scurll, have mentioned your work as inspiring, especially for a fellow British wrestler. Are you grateful for their words of support?

Neville: That makes me giggle. Isn’t that cute? Try your best, lads. I’ll see you soon.

Neville is scheduled to face Austin Aries in a Submission match for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship at WWE ‘Extreme Rules’ this weekend.

[This post contains video, click to play]

Editor’s Note:

It seems like Neville kept kayfabe during this interview, but I loved every second of it. Sports Illustrated did an amazing job with the questions they asked. Props to them. Neville has always been one of my favorites so it is nice seeing him in the position he is in, though I do want Aries to capture that title.

What is your opinion on Neville? What did you think of his answers to the questions Sports Illustrated asked him? Let us know in the comments below or over on our Facebook page or Twitter account. Additionally, you can follow me over on Twitter at @SOSNH1995. Thank you for reading.
