Inside Betting Once Again Spoiling Fastlane Winners: Two New Champs Favored

It’s a few days before a pay-per-view, which means it’s once again time to completely spoil the results by looking at inside betting info!

Fastlane will see Goldberg taking on Kevin Owens for the Universal Championship, Charlotte attempting to reclaim the Raw Women’s Championship from Bayley, and Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson defending the tag titles from Enzo Amore & Big Cass. The odds for online betting are always influenced by inside info, so what should you expect this Sunday?

According to BetWrestling, you should expect two new champions–and that’s really no surprise. Plans for Goldberg to take the Universal Championship have been clear for months, and there’s no reason to expect Charlotte’s pay-per-view win streak to end before WrestleMania. Both are heavily favored to win their respective titles.

Another heavy favorite is Samoa Joe, and the odds-makers are giving Sami Zayn basically no hope of escaping with a win. Neville is expected to hang onto the Cruiserweight Championship, and the Tag Champs are slight favorites to retain, as well.

Roman Reigns is very slightly favored over Braun Strowman in their clash, but interestingly, there are also good odds of an appearance by the Undertaker–likely setting up a match between the Deadman and Reigns that was teased at the Royal Rumble.

Naturally, whatever inside info has influenced the odds is subject to change up until the very last minute. But we’d be shocked if any of the heavy favorites turn out differently.

TNA Has Got a New TV Deal

Impact Wrestling currently airs on Pop TV in the US, and that’s not exactly the hottest network on this country’s cable line-up. Luckily for wrestling fans, TNA just announced a new TV deal–in the UK, that is.

A press release from TNA today announced that Impact will be getting a European broadcast on Spike UK. That will see the weekly show broadcast throughout the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.

Ed Nordholm, Anthem’s Executive Vice President said that “Since our acquisition of IMPACT Wrestling, growing the brand in the UK has been one of our most important initiatives. We are thrilled to be partnering with Spike UK to fill this important spot in their programme schedule and look forward to rebuilding our presence in the UK market. As one of the hottest wrestling scenes in the world right now, we look forward to taking an active role in the market, both on television and with live events.”

It will be interesting to see how committed Impact is to growing in the UK, as it’s a major wrestling market without a major home promotion on television. ITV’s World of Sport revival has hit a snag with the realization that they aren’t equipped to put together a weekly program, and WWE has been slow to make any follow-up on their UK tournament.

Impact will begin its new broadcast on April 21st. This follows a flurry of a talent departures and creative changes.

Get Your Rumors Right: This WWE Star Isn’t Gone Yet

Let’s make sure we get this one right: Jack Swagger is not out of WWE yet. You haven’t seen him on TV in a long time and he definitely wants out, but his departure is not yet official.

As we reported yesterday, Swagger used a podcast appearance to announce that he has asked for his release from WWE. “It’s still kind of an ongoing process right now,” he said.

A few other sites–we’re not naming names or anything–took this to mean that Swagger’s departure is a confirmed, done deal. Even the podcast itself advertises that the All-American American had been “granted release.”

That’s not the case. Swagger is still listed on WWE’s superstar page, and as of this moment he’s still under contract. We don’t know the details of Swagger’s contract, so it’s tough to say how difficult it will be for him to negotiate a release, or whether WWE might require a non-compete clause.

[This post contains video, click to play]

Any corporate difficulty would seem petty, however, considering that Swagger hasn’t been utilized anywhere aside from house shows for months now. Should he have another world title reign? Probably not, but he was a consistently over undercard performer even in his later days.

Do you want to see Swagger move on from WWE? Where would you want him to go? Let us know in the comments, or on Facebook!

The New Day Ice Cream Actually Exists?

For a few weeks now, The New Day has been telling us that they will be creating their own brand of ice cream for the WWE Universe. It would appear that those plans have actually come to fruition.

[This post contains video, click to play]

According to a report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the product that will be produced is not ice cream, but rather frozen pops. In fact, merchandise regarding this was already on sale at last week’s “Monday Night Raw” from Green Bay, Wisconsin.

The New Day have been taking on a bigger role on the entertainment side of the company in recent weeks. This has been shown by the fact they will be the hosts of this year’s WrestleMania from Orlando.

Editor’s Note:

You scream, I scream, we all scream for ice cream! It doesn’t matter how they do it, this will be a huge marketing campaign for WWE. There has been talk about ice cream all the way back to the days of CM Punk, so any kind of frozen treat is sure to be a big seller with the WWE Universe.

What would you like to see the New Day ice cream be? Leave us a comment below, or post a comment on our Facebook page!

New TNA Management Plans to “Bury” Previous Owners On-Screen

Things have been ugly in TNA this week, with tons of talent leaving as new management moves in to make significant changes to the company. Now it looks like some of that ugliness will be moving on-screen.

According to this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required), Jeff Jarrett’s marketing push is roughly “Let’s Make TNA Great Again.” They’ll be presenting changes to show as a return to form now that the company’s founder is back in charge.

They won’t be pulling punches when it comes to putting down the existing show, either. Dixie Carter’s management will be directly criticized (whether or not it involves her name), with the general message being that TNA had gone “to hell.”

They’re bringing in former personalities like Konnan and Bruce Prichard specifically for the purpose of burying the previous regime on-screen.

You might call it petty, but in fairness TNA is working to move past some very negative image problems. Fans can point to good recent developments in the program, but most people still see Impact as the show that tried to compete with WWE but fell apart in the most laughable way.

Do you think an explicit criticism of the previous managers is the right call for TNA? Let us know in the comments, or on Facebook!

The Hardys Might Be Headed Somewhere Besides WWE

We now officially know what has already been suspected for quite some time: Matt and Jeff Hardy are not only on their way out of TNA, but they are no longer with the company. As such, speculation has started on where they will land next within the industry.

While a lot of people would hope they would make their return to the WWE, it looks as though the brothers may have other plans, if their Twitter is any indication.

In a tweet directed toward Kenny Omega, it looks like the Hardys have their sights set on New Japan Pro Wrestling. In the tweet, Matt Hardy mentions that the duo “have their eyes on The ELITE…in Japan.”

Despite their long careers in wrestling–dating back to 1992–neither of the two brothers have found their way to Japan for a stint. They have conquered nearly every market found in North America, including Ring of Honor, TNA, and WWE.

This sort of move is huge for the duo, as Kenny Omega has broken down many barriers to western talent entering the predominantly Japanese promotion with his increased success in New Japan. Given the lack of challenges they face in America at this point, a move to the land of the rising sun makes a lot sense for them at this point.

Former WWE Star Headed For Rival Company TNA Soon?

The latest WWE rumors focus on the potential for a former WWE star and champion to possibly head to WWE’s competitor Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Wrestling. If true, it could crush the hopes of fans from the WWE Universe that the former World Champion would be among the longtime stars to return to the ring for WWE.

According to PWMania, the superstar in the latest rumors is Rey Mysterio, the little man known for his “619” and high-flying ring skills. As the site reports that Wrestling Observer Radio’s Dave Meltzer recently said there’s a possibility that Impact Wrestling is trying to bring Mysterio on board. Mysterio was a longtime member of WWE and a former winner of the Royal Rumble as well as many championships while part of the company.

WWE rumors for former WWE star to TNA
There are WWE rumors indicating that Rey Mysterio may be in talks to sign with TNA. [Image by WWE]

PWMania indicates that Mysterio had a contract with Lucha Underground, his current pro wrestling company. That would allow Mysterio to appear with TNA (or WWE) six months after the latest season of Lucha airs. There’s also the possibility he could re-sign with Lucha. The earliest fans might see Mysterio pop up for TNA would be in October, though.

The potential signing would be a big deal for TNA, as the company has been lagging and losing top stars to WWE. Among them have been Samoa Joe, AJ Styles, Austin Aries, and Bobby Roode. However, former TNA stars such as AJ Styles mentioned that part of the problem with the company was how they continued to try to bring in the former WWE stars to boost interest in TNA.

Previous WWE rumors suggested that Mysterio might show up at the 2017 Royal Rumble match as a surprise entry. However, that pay-per-view has come and gone with no sign of the masked competitor back on either Raw or SmackDown Live. His presence might help boost the Raw roster or even lend some more star power to the Cruiserweight division which some fans feel has been a disappointment.

If Mysterio does make the move to WWE’s competitor it would dispel previous rumors about Rey coming back to WWE. As of this report, there are still betting odds with Mysterio listed as a possibility to return at WrestleMania 33 for an in-ring appearance. At Paddy Power, Mysterio has eight to one odds on the list, but then again there are superstars like CM Punk (20 to one) and AJ Lee (six to one) who also appear on the list.

Mysterio was a member of World Championship Wrestling from 1996 through 2001 and then entered WWE a year later. He stayed with the company through 2015, making for an impressive run. It also molded Mysterio into a fan favorite over the years based on his quick offense and Lucha wrestling style. During his time in WCW and WWE, Mysterio captured the WCW Cruiserweight Championship five times, the World Heavyweight Championship twice, and the WWE Championship once.

In addition, he was a multiple-time Cruiserweight, Intercontinental, and tag team champion with the WWE and is considered one of the “Triple Crown” title winners over the years. That accomplishment came during his time with WWE for having won a major title, a tag team title, and the Intercontinental title at different points in his career.

Some fans believe Mysterio to also be a part of the illustrious Grand Slam club. That achievement is unlocked by professional wrestlers who achieve four particular championships during their career. In the case of Mysterio, he’s won the World Heavyweight title, tag team titles, Intercontinental, and Cruiserweight titles.

As mentioned, a Mysterio return to WWE would be huge, but it could also add to what many fans feel is the biggest problem in the company right now: lack of developing newer talents in favor of bringing in the older superstars. With recent returns from Bill Goldberg and Triple H getting into the ring, it shows that WWE may be too reliant on longtime talents.

Pro wrestling fans, would TNA bringing Rey Mysterio into their company be enough to help gain more interest in the product, or is it too much of a sinking ship? Also, would a Rey Mysterio return to WWE be a good thing, and if so, which roster would he be better with: WWE Raw or SmackDown?

The Big Show is Frustrated Over Shaq, and Here’s Why

Much has been made about Big Show’s potential match with NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal at Wrestlemania this year. The battle of two of literally the biggest athletes in the world could be a seat packer in and of itself. However, the closer we get to the match, the further away we get.

It appears as though Shaq is having reservations in having the match, as he has since said that the match is “not looking good” on his podcast. As such, in a recent interview with The Sporting News, The Big Show had a lot to say regarding the Wrestlemania match, which he stated may be his last.

“You know, I still don’t know if it’s off yet or not. I don’t know,” he stated in regards to whether the match will actually happen. But as far as Shaq’s hesitance, he states, “I understand the fact that if it’s something that he doesn’t want to do, that he’s scared of, that’s fine but don’t put the blame on me because it isn’t me. Just own up to it and say you’re scared and that’s that.”

While he states that he is just talking trash to Shaq, it does seem that O’Neal indeed could be experiencing jitters.

Bobby Roode’s Next NXT Title Defense Confirmed

Ohyes. With a month to go before NXT “Takeover: Orlando”, a good chunk of the card can be pieced together without anything being officially announced. One of the matches that isn’t clear yet is the NXT Title match as Champion Bobby Roode doesn’t have a #1 contender for the big show. As of this week’s episode of “NXT” though, he does have a #1 contender for two weeks from now.

This week on “NXT”, General Manager William Regal announced that Roode will defend his NXT Title against the returning Kassius Ohno on the March 15 show. Ohno hasn’t wrestled a match in NXT in over three years but returned last week and got the better of an impromptu brawl with the champion. You can read this week’s “NXT” results here.

Opinion: The other important part of the story is the return of Shinsuke Nakamura, who will be back in action next week, marking his return to the ring for the first time since Roode beat him for the title. I don’t think Ohno gets the title so soon but I’d imagine that he has it at some point before the year is out, probably defeating Roode for it later down the line.
