Since Charlotte Flair officially ended her undefeated streak at WrestleMania 34, Asuka has consistently lost momentum on SmackDown Live. She’s lost some matches, but it’s WWE officials have also failed to continue making her look important. Instead, she has fallen into the midcard and it doesn’t seem her push is going change anytime soon.
For some time, it seemed a heel turn was brewing for The Empress of Tomorrow. That would have been something new for her. She teased a heel run in NXT, but a full turn never happened. Apparently, WWE officials have also canceled the potential turn on the main roster too. Many people are confused by WWE’s recent booking of Asuka in 2018.
According to a report from PWInsider Elite, the reason for Asuka’s fall down the WWE ladder is the fault of Vince McMahon. Mike Johnson believes that Vince may be holding back The Empress of Tomorrow because she can’t cut promos in English. The language barrier creates some problems for her character that could be holding her back.
Unfortunately, the microphone is such an important aspect of WWE programming. John Cena can spend most of his career as WWE’s top guy with the fans arguing that “he can’t wrestle.” His promos are what gave him a character with longevity. For Asuka, the lack of promo time makes her character two-dimensional and that limits her run drastically.
The idea of a mouthpiece has been brought up several times over. There are ways for a renewed push to come to Asuka eventually, but she might have to wait for a long time before another run at the SmackDown Women’s Championship is fresh again. It’s easy to blame Vince McMahon and WWE officials for her current position, but Asuka needs to evolve on SmackDown Live before the powers that be can use her in a different way.
Is it fair to hold Asuka back because of a lack of promo skills?
