The Authors of Pain were arguably the most pushed tag team in NXT history. With the guidance of WWE Hall of Famer Paul Ellering, Akam and Rezar won the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic and dominated the brand as the NXT Tag Team Champions. The duo made his Raw debut after WrestleMania and seemed bound for a massive push.
Unfortunately, WWE officials made the decision to drop Ellering as their manager and have mostly kept them off Raw since their debut. A lot of people are confused with the way the company has utilized AOP on the main roster over the past couple of months.
According to a report from WrestlingNewsSource, the reason for the duo is being kept off WWE television is because WWE officials don’t have anything for them creatively at the moment. As a result, Akam and Rezar are being kept off Raw so the WWE Universe doesn’t associate them with lackluster teams. That’s a common mistake WWE has made in the past.
From one angle, it’s a good thing the team is being protected. However, it’s not doing the Authors of Pain any favors keeping them off WWE television. Squash matches aren’t the most interesting to watch, but it establishes their dominance. That makes it easier to push them instead of just asking the fans to remember the team from two months ago.
Akam and Rezar have the potential to dominate WWE’s tag team division:
Some people will argue that the Authors of Pain should have just stayed in NXT if there was nothing for them on the main roster. Eventually, a spot will open for AOP in the tag team division. It’s just another example of WWE officials not having a plan beforehand.
How would you book The Authors of Pain?
